Wheadon Farm Regional Park

Salt Lake County's Wheadon Farm Regional Park in Draper features a children's play area, paved pathways, interpretive experiences, restrooms, a pavilion, a parking lot, and a bridge over the Jordan Canal.

The Gene and Deane Wheadon farm was a working farm from the early 1900's. In 1997, Gene Wheadon generously donated the land to Utah Open Lands, a non-profit trust conservation association whose mission is to preserve and protect open space.

Salt Lake County purchased the land from Utah Open Space in 2008 and they agreed to comply with the conservation easement. In 2009, the county presented plans at a Draper City council meeting for this park, but funding fell short. In 2012, the county passed a Parks and Trails Bond, of which $6 million was designated to develop the park.

The Wheadon family wished for the park to have a "strong farm theme," with opportunities for urban farming, recreation, relaxation, education, health, and sustainability. Gene loved this land and he wanted to make sure it would be protected forever. Today, visitors have the opportunity to see the Wheadon family's dream to preserve this 64-acre parcel of land.
