UPDATE June 6, 4:57 PM - Boil Order Lifted by Utah DEQ

Water Boil Order Update - June 6, 4:57 PM

The following has been distributed by WaterPro:

The Division of Drinking water has lifted the boil advisory issued on June 6, 2025 and the drinking water
system has returned to normal service.

After extensive cleaning and flushing of the area of concern highlighted in blue (See Map), we collected 20 follow-up samples throughout the potentially affected area on June 5, 2025. All samples were absent of coliform and E. coli bacteria. This map can also be found on our website at www.waterpro.net.

We take your health and the quality of our drinking water very seriously. Based on these sample results and confirmation that chlorine residuals remain within normal operating levels our drinking water meets regulatory standards and is safe to drink.

This emergency highlights the critical nature of cross connections between culinary water and pressure
irrigation systems. Although these connections might be convenient for citizens, if not done properly
they can put our community at great risk.

For more information, please contact our Office at (801) 571-2232

What You Need To Do Next
To ensure any potential contamination is fully addressed, we recommend the following steps for all drinking water connections located within the blue-shaded area on this Map or visit www.waterpro.net. If your connection is outside this area, these steps are not necessary.

Flush household pipes/faucets first.
● To flush your plumbing, run all your cold water faucets on full for at least 15 minutes each. (Hot water instructions follow below)
● For a residence with multiple levels, start at the top of the house.
● If your service connection is long or complex (like in an apartment building) consider flushing for a longer period. Your building superintendent or landlord should be able to advise you on longer flushing times.
● If the water is discolored, continue to run it from the tap until it is clear.

Ice and automatic ice makers:
● Wash and sanitize ice trays.
● For an icemaker, dump existing ice and flush the water feed lines by making and discarding at least three batches of ice cubes.
● Wipe down the ice bin with a disinfectant.

Water heaters, water coolers, in line filters, and other appliances with a water connection or water tanks (such as kitchen appliances, humidifiers, swamp coolers):
● Run enough water to completely replace at least one full volume of all lines and tanks.
● Follow any other instructions from the appliance manufacturer.
Water softeners:
● Run through a regeneration cycle.
● Follow any other instructions from the appliance manufacturer.

You may also consider:
● Replace pre-filters, on Reverse Osmosis Machines ( check your owner's manual)
● Replace other water filters (fridge filters etc.), as they are disposable and may be contaminated. This applies especially to carbon filters and others that are near the end of their life.

Other: Clean and sanitize all pet bowls.

If you manage spaces as a landlord, management company, or corporation, Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly. You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

Draper City has been advised that water testing results are expected to be in around 4:00 PM today. At that time a determination will be made by the Division of Drinking Water within the Utah Department of Environmental Quality if the boil order can be lifted or needs to be extended. Another update will be provided at that point.

To offer some assistance to residents, Draper City and Salt Lake County Health Department will provide free bottled water to residents in the affected area. There is a limited supply. Residents may pick up one case of bottled water per household at Draper City Hall, 1020 E. Pioneer Rd (lobby) starting at 12:00 PM today, while supplies last. Proof of residency in the affected area will be required. Please bring a copy of your utility bill (or show utility account information on your phone) or other identification with an address.

Residents and visitors should be aware that by order of Salt Lake County Health Department, due to handwashing and dishwashing concerns all restaurants and other food service businesses located within the affected area may not operate while the boil order remains in place. One exception is In-N-Out Burger, because they have a pre-approved emergency operations plan for this circumstance.

Residents in the affected area should continue to boil all tap water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, or washing dishes. Do not use unboiled tap water for any consumption-related purpose.

Draper City will provide another update as soon as possible after testing results are expected, around 4:00 PM and once WaterPro and county and state agencies follow up with next steps.

Original Message Follows:

WaterPro has advised Draper City that they have sent notifications regarding possible contamination to the drinking water system to approximately 1,300 customers in Draper. The estimated affected area is outlined on the linked map below and is posted on the WaterPro website. As a precaution, the Utah Division of Drinking Water has issued a boil order.

WaterPro said the contamination came from a cross-connection between the secondary and culinary water systems, which allowed untreated water to enter the drinking water system.

This information is preliminary. WaterPro is conducting testing to determine bacteria levels in the water supply. They advise that bacteria samples have been collected and are being sent to the lab.

Residents in Draper City’s water service area are not affected. All questions should be directed to WaterPro at (801) 571-2232 or wolfe@waterpro.net. Read the following linked notice for complete details.

WaterPro Drinking Water Order

The following general information is from the Salt Lake County Health Department regarding possible exposure to contaminated water:

Secondary water is not treated for human consumption and may contain:

  • Bacteria (e.g., E. coli, Salmonella)
  • Viruses (e.g., Norovirus, Hepatitis A)
  • Parasites (e.g., Cryptosporidium)
  • Chemical contaminants (e.g., fertilizers, pesticides)

Drinking untreated water, or getting in your mouth while bathing or brushing teeth, may cause:

  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, or diarrhea
  • Headache, fever or flu-like symptoms
  • More severe illness in young children, older adults, or those with weakened immune systems

These symptoms are caused by other things, too, but if you are in the affected area and experience any of these symptoms, contact your health care provider and let them know about your exposure to untreated water.

DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a rolling boil for at least (1) one minute and let it cool before using—or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. ALL STORED WATER, DRINKS, OR ICE MADE RECENTLY FROM THIS SUPPLY SHOULD BE DISCARDED.
