The Draper City Fire Department dedicated a new memorial and held a flag and bell ringing ceremony to honor two of its fallen firefighters from Draper – Matthew Burchett and Bryan Thatcher. The department also lit up its stations with red lights this week in their memory.
Fire Marshal Bryan Thatcher was the department’s first fire marshal and unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack in 2018. Battalion Chief Matthew Burchett passed away when an uprooted tree fell on him while battling a California wildfire in 2018. Both families of the two firefighters will attend the memorial dedication.
Draper City’s event is part of the nationwide tribute by the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation and as part of the “Light the Night” campaign to honor fallen firefighters who lost their lives.
